Nigeria: Report Flags 92 Fraudulent Projects Under Tinubu Administration

A report reveals that numerous federal government-funded projects in Nigeria have been flagged for fraud and abandonment during President Bola Tinubu's administration.

A new civic accountability report released by Tracka, BudgIT's citizen-led monitoring platform, has identified significant issues in the execution of federal projects under President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria. The report indicates that 92 projects, with a total funding of N15.07 billion, were flagged as fraudulently delivered, while hundreds remain stalled or incomplete despite receiving budget allocations. This indicates a worrying trend regarding government accountability and effective resource management in the country.

The report tracked a total of 2,760 projects across 28 states, providing a comprehensive overview of the state of federal government initiatives. Out of these, only 1,438 projects were completed, while 660 were still in progress. Alarmingly, 471 projects were not executed at all, and 99 were left abandoned. This paints a troubling picture of government efficacy and raises concerns about oversight and management practices within the administration, potentially undermining public trust.

As these findings emerge, they carry significant implications for future governance and public accountability in Nigeria. The identified instances of fund diversion and mismanagement highlight the need for better monitoring systems and calls for government action to address these discrepancies. The report serves as a critical reminder of the challenges the Tinubu administration faces in ensuring that federal projects are executed properly and effectively, ensuring that taxpayer funds are utilized for their intended purposes.
