Steam Train from Companhia Mogiana Restored for Railway Museum

A steam locomotive from Companhia Mogiana has been restored for display at a new railway museum in Brazil.

A new railway museum being developed by the Brazilian Association for Railway Preservation (ABPF) has completed the restoration of its first exhibit, a steam locomotive that once belonged to Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro. This locomotive, known for its historical significance, has undergone aesthetic restoration and will be housed in a museum that will showcase at least 14 historical vehicles to the public. The museum is being built along the former operational tracks of Mogiana, which now host a scenic route for weekend and holiday excursions between Campinas and Jaguariúna.

The restored locomotive, identified as number 302, received a fresh coat of paint at the end of December, reflecting the last standard specifications of the Mogiana steam locomotive fleet. Helio Gazetta Filho, the director of the ABPF, stated that while the locomotive is ready for display, there are future considerations for operational usage, including the possibility of installing a new firebox or boiler if the association decides to run train trips with it again. The aim for the museum at the Anhuma station is not only to preserve historical artifacts but also to revive an appreciation for Brazil's railway heritage among the public.

As the museum progresses, the rollout of additional exhibits will further enrich the cultural landscape of the region. This initiative is a part of broader efforts to preserve and celebrate Brazil's railway history, fostering a connection between the past and present. Such endeavors may also enhance local tourism by attracting both railway enthusiasts and the general public to engage with the historical significance of rail travel in Brazil.
