Lithuanian biathletes who debuted in Milan-Cortina admitted: we needed to work better

Lithuanian biathletes finished 20th in their debut at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, expressing disappointment over their performance despite the support of nearly 20,000 spectators, including the Lithuanian Prime Minister.

The Lithuanian biathlon team, consisting of members Vytautas Strolia, Nikita Čigakas, Judita Traubaitė, and Lidija Žurauskaitė, made their Olympic debut in Milan-Cortina, finishing in 20th place at the event. They faced challenges with their shooting accuracy, leading to four additional shots and two penalty laps during the competition, which contributed to a significant time deficit compared to the winning French team, who only needed seven extra shots. The event drew an impressive crowd of nearly 20,000 spectators, including Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, who witnessed the event from the stands.

As the first leg of the relay, V. Strolia performed in his fourth Olympic Games, facing tough conditions with a requirement for one additional shot while lying down and three while standing, contributing to their position in the race. After his leg, he handed over the baton to N. Čigakas in 17th place. Reflecting on their performance, Strolia expressed a mixed impression, stating that the team could have worked better and that missed shots while standing led to significant time loss. The expectation from the Lithuanian team is that they will learn from this experience to improve in future events and aim for a better performance next time.

The event showcased the dedication and hard work of the Lithuanian biathletes at the Olympics, highlighting their ambitions on this global stage, despite the challenges they faced. With such experiences under their belts, the team hopes to build on their performance and make a stronger showing in the future.
