GALLERY: 48th Alutaguse Marathon had 1,400 participants
The 48th Alutaguse Marathon witnessed the participation of about 1,000 skiers in its main events, showcasing a robust interest in amateur skiing and sportsmanship in Estonia.
On February 8, the first Estoloppet classical marathon of the season took place, marking the 48th edition of the Alutaguse Marathon, which drew in approximately 1,000 skiers. Among the participants, 545 athletes tackled the challenging 45 km marathon distance, while 419 competitors entered the 24 km half marathon, reflecting a strong culture of amateur skiing in the region. The event is designed to provide an engaging experience for recreational athletes, fostering a community around this winter sport.
Recreational skier Hannes Hermaküla, who participated in the marathon, expressed satisfaction with the course, calling it beautiful and well-set for both competition and recovery after his illness. His comments highlighted the camaraderie and spirit of the event that encourages skiing beyond professional ambitions. The track wound beautifully across three lakes, offering stunning views that appealed to both participants and spectators alike.
The men's competition was fierce, with Marko Kilp emerging as the winner in a tense finish. Events like the Alutaguse Marathon not only promote physical fitness but also enhance community ties and encourage healthy lifestyles in Estonia, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for winter sports in the country.
