Latvian biathletes take 12th place in mixed relay at the Olympic Games

Latvia's biathlon team finished 12th in the mixed relay at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, with France claiming the gold medal.

At the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, Latvian biathletes performed in the mixed relay event, securing a 12th place out of 21 competing teams. This marked Latvia's first participation in the mixed relay at the Olympics, showcasing the talents of leading athletes including Andrejs Rastorgujevs, Renārs Birkentāls, Baiba Bendika, and Estere Volfa. Despite a commendable effort, the team finished behind the leaders by three minutes and 13 seconds, having incurred two penalty laps and using nine spare rounds.

The competition concluded with the French team taking the gold medal, composed of celebrated athletes such as Érik Perro, Quentin Fillon Maillet, Lucas Chanavat, and Julia Simon, who crossed the finish line in a time of 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 15.5 seconds. Italy secured the silver medal, finishing 25.8 seconds behind France, with a team that featured Tomaso Giacomel, Lucas Hofer, Dorothea Wierer, and Lisa Vittozzi, highlighting the strong local support for the host nation.
