The first biathlon gold went to the French, Estonia in 15th place in the mixed relay
Estonia's mixed relay team finished in 15th place in the Olympic biathlon event, where France won the gold medal.
The Olympic biathlon program commenced on Sunday with the mixed relay event, where France triumphed over host nation Italy to secure the gold medal. The Estonian team, consisting of Rene Zahkna, Kristo Siimer, Susan Külm, and Regina Ermits, faced challenges throughout the race, ultimately finishing in 15th place.
Rene Zahkna struggled in the first shooting range, requiring two spare rounds, while his teammate Kristo Siimer started almost a minute behind the leading Norway team. Siimer's performance was less efficient than Zahkna's, as he had a 2+0 shooting record, and Susan Külm began the course in 15th place, trailing Norway by 1 minute and 47 seconds. Külm also had one missed shot over two shooting rounds, and although she had the 17th fastest ski time of the day, it was not enough to help the Estonian team improve their standing.
Despite Regina Ermits’ strong performance, who shot cleanly during both prone and standing positions, the collective struggles of the Estonian team on the course led to their final placement of 15th, finishing 3 minutes and 29.8 seconds behind the winners. The event highlighted the competitive nature of Olympic biathlon, with Italy hosting a thrilling competition.
