A Tesla for less than $42,000? This is the new Model Y with all-wheel drive
Tesla has launched a new version of its popular Model Y all-wheel drive SUV starting at just under $42,000, featuring improved traction and performance.
Tesla has introduced a new version of its medium-sized electric SUV, the Model Y, which boasts an all-wheel drive system with a starting price of just under $42,000. This model offers a range of 472 kilometers on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 96 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, making it both a more affordable and high-performance option compared to previous versions. As such, Tesla positions the Model Y as its "most affordable" electric SUV amid a changing product lineup.
The announcement comes as Tesla concludes production of its luxury sedan Model S and luxury SUV Model X. According to Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, this shift towards the more affordable Model Y aligns with the companyโs broader plans to innovate in robotic technology, indicating a strategic pivot towards potentially integrating robotics in their production and design processes. The Model Y aims to capture a broader market segment by providing entry-level options for consumers looking for electric vehicles.
With this launch, Tesla offers five different versions of the Model Y, starting with a rear-wheel drive model priced at $39,990, followed by the all-wheel drive variant at $41,990, and other premium options that range up to $49,990. This pricing strategy may help Tesla enhance its market presence against other electric vehicle competitors while promoting sustainable transportation solutions more widely among consumers in various economic brackets.
