Announcement of Scholarships for Lyric Singing in Memory of Elisavet Chatzivassiliou and Frantzeska Beza

The Greek Ministry of Culture announced a scholarship competition for lyric singing in memory of two young singers who tragically lost their lives in an accident, aimed at supporting the next generation of lyric artists.

The Ministry of Culture in Greece, supported by the National Opera, has announced the second Lyric Singing Competition which will offer two scholarships for further studies (opera direction) at recognized music institutions abroad for the 2026-2027 academic year. These scholarships were established in 2023 to honor the memory of Elisavet Chatzivassiliou and Frantzeska Beza, two promising young singers who tragically lost their lives in the train accident at Larissa. The scholarships will be awarded biennially, emphasizing a sustained commitment to arts education.

Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, highlighted that the scholarships not only honor the memory of Chatzivassiliou and Beza but also aim to practically support the new generation of lyric artists. The initiative indicates the Ministry's commitment to the systematic artistic development of young talents. The National Opera is tasked with selecting the recipients and monitoring their academic progress, ensuring a fair and transparent process for these aspiring artists.

This announcement comes at a time when the arts sector is looking for ways to foster new talent and promote cultural heritage within Greece. By providing substantial support for education in the arts, the Ministry is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of lyric singing, ensuring that the legacy of the two talented singers lives on while encouraging the potential of other emerging artists.
