A significant fire broke out early Sunday morning in Kouvola, resulting in the tragic loss of 180 cattle. According to the Kymenlaakson rescue service, the barn was completely destroyed by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, and they managed to prevent the flames from spreading to an adjacent barn housing approximately 60 calves. Fortunately, no human injuries were reported.
The incident took place around 6:30 AM when emergency services received reports of a large building fire on Yläniitynkatu in Kouvola. Firefighters were deployed swiftly, and by ten o'clock in the morning, they were engaged in post-extinguishing efforts, debris clearing, and investigating the cause of the fire. A total of seven rescue units were on-site to handle the situation, ensuring that the fire did not endanger nearby structures or personnel.
Although there were no physical injuries involved, the owners of the farm were exposed to smoke, highlighting the potential health implications of such fires even outside the immediate dangers of flames. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with farming operations, and it raises concerns about fire safety protocols in agricultural settings.
