Jeju Airport to add 10 flights to Gimpo amid heavy snow delays
Due to heavy snowfall, Jeju Airport is adding 10 flights to transport stranded passengers to Gimpo Airport.
Jeju Airport is experiencing significant disruptions due to heavy snowfall that has stranded passengers. In response, the Korea Airports Corporation announced that it will add 10 extra flights to transport 2,014 stranded passengers to Gimpo Airport. These additional flights will be operated mainly by Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, with a particular note that some flights will divert to Incheon Airport due to night-time landing restrictions at Gimpo.
Despite an original plan for 461 flights on that day, severe weather conditions resulted in the cancellation of 164 domestic flights and 5 international flights, leaving over 11,000 passengers unable to board their flights. The ongoing snow removal operations on the runways have been a priority to restore normal service, but the weather conditions continue to present significant challenges.
To manage the situation and prepare for any overnight stays at the airport, Jeju authorities are mobilizing supplies such as blankets, mattresses, and water for stranded passengers. This response highlights the logistical challenges faced in maintaining airport operations during adverse weather events while ensuring passenger welfare in emergencies.
