Cheongju International Airport sees 480,000 users in January... On the brink of reaching 5 million users

Cheongju International Airport has reached a record of 480,000 users in January, positioning itself as the fourth busiest airport in South Korea, with expectations to surpass 5 million annual passengers soon.

Cheongju International Airport has recorded a significant increase in passenger numbers, with 480,485 users in January, setting a record for the month. This represents a substantial rise of 155,000 more passengers compared to the same month last year, showcasing the airport's growing popularity. The number of international travelers, in particular, has surged from approximately 140,000 in January of last year to over 227,000 this year, reflecting a robust recovery in air travel post-pandemic.

The data, analyzed and presented by the provincial government of Chungbuk, indicates that the trend is expected to continue, especially during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday period. An influx of travelers is anticipated, with 298 domestic flights and 306 international flights scheduled from January 13 to 18, 2024. This surge in passenger traffic underscores the airport's strategic importance in the region, enhancing connectivity both domestically and internationally.

Looking ahead, Cheongju International Airport is on the path to welcoming between 5 million and 6 million passengers annually. Following a steady increase in passenger numbers over the past few years—from 1.97 million in 2020 to a record of 4.67 million in 2022—the airport is poised to surpass its previous records as travel demand resumes. This growth not only supports the local economy but also enhances the airport's status as a vital hub in South Korea’s aviation sector.
