Swollen neck, bleeding, paralyzed face: see accounts of women who reported a dentist after complications in aesthetic procedures
Women have reported severe complications after undergoing aesthetic procedures by a dentist, including intense pain, bleeding, and facial paralysis.
Recent cases have emerged involving women who experienced serious complications following aesthetic procedures performed by the dentist Fernanda Borges da Silva. Reports detail a range of harmful effects, such as intense pain, severe bleeding, swelling, and the risk of necrosis, as well as partial paralysis of the face. Since the first case publicly surfaced in September of last year, authorities are investigating at least three additional cases linked to her practices.
Among the troubling accounts, a 67-year-old retired teacher has reported complications following a facelift and cervicoplasty performed merely a month prior. Moreover, there are various patients who have faced adverse effects from different cosmetic procedures, such as Botox application, bichectomy, and endolaser treatments. These incidents raise significant concerns regarding the qualifications and practices of professionals undertaking such procedures, especially those not typically categorized as cosmetic surgeons.
The patient testimonies include distressing details about their experiences, with some reporting long-term sequelae like scarring and ongoing pain months after the procedures. Such reports highlight the urgent need for better regulation and oversight within the aesthetic medicine sector, emphasizing the importance of patient safety and informed consent in cosmetic treatments.
