Forensic report confirms serious injuries in second patient of dentist accused of complications in cosmetic procedures

A 67-year-old retired teacher from Brazil suffered serious injuries following a facelift procedure performed by a dentist accused of malpractice.

Leslie Calandra Silveira Gomes, a 67-year-old retired teacher from Passos, Minas Gerais, is the second patient to have her serious injuries confirmed by a forensic report after undergoing a facelift performed by dentist Fernanda Borges in early January. The incident has heightened concerns regarding the quality and safety of cosmetic procedures conducted by Borges, whose clinic has been closed since September of the previous year due to multiple complaints.

Following the procedure on January 3, Gomes experienced significant swelling in her neck and later reported bleeding and further swelling in the days after the operation. These alarming symptoms matched accounts from previous patients who have also voiced concerns about mishaps during procedures at Borges' clinic. The clinic has faced scrutiny, not just from patients but also from health authorities, with the situation exemplifying the risks associated with unregulated cosmetic procedures.

G1 tried to reach out to Borges' legal representatives for comments regarding the case, but did not receive any response before the publication of the report. This news comes at a time when discussions about the regulation of cosmetic surgeries and the protection of patients' rights are increasingly prevalent in Brazil, indicating a need for greater oversight and stricter regulations in the beauty industry.
