Hospital network driven by Durazo and Sheinbaum transforms medical care for half a million Sonorans
The Sonora governor, Alfonso Durazo, announced that over half a million people have benefited from the strengthened network of hospitals through the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and IMSS-Bienestar.
Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño of Sonora recently stated that the investment in the state's healthcare infrastructure, including the ambitious strengthening of the hospital network, has positively impacted over half a million residents. This initiative is supported by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and represents a significant investment of 40 billion pesos in new hospital facilities, advanced medical technology, and equipment, enhancing the quality of healthcare available to the populace.
Among the critical developments, six new first-level hospitals have been established in various municipalities including Etchojoa, Navojoa, Vícam, Guaymas, Hermosillo, and San Luis Río Colorado. The IMSS-Bienestar community hospital in Vícam has already commenced operations, highlighting Sonora's role as a national benchmark for public health initiatives. The new facilities are expected to greatly alleviate the healthcare challenges faced by these communities, providing essential services closer to home.
Additionally, a new 120-bed regional general hospital is scheduled to begin construction in San Luis Río Colorado on March 30, 2025. This further underscores the commitment of both the state and federal authorities to improve healthcare accessibility and ensure that rural areas are equipped with quality medical services, thereby transforming the health landscape in Sonora and potentially influencing healthcare policies nationwide.
