The 51st edition of the Winter Rally 'Sarma' took place in Latvia, an event recognized for its unique snow and ice challenges that rank alongside iconic rallies like Monte Carlo and Sweden. Over 70 teams participated in the rally, fighting through seven stages covering a distance of 97.27 kilometers amidst wintery conditions that delighted both competitors and spectators. Polish champion Matulka described the rally as a major preparation for the current season, having previously tested his vehicle under real winter conditions in Poland.

Matulka, who has only competed in three winter rallies in his career, dominated the event by winning all stages, finishing with nearly a minute lead over his competitors. His strong performance highlights the valuable experience gained during his preparations leading up to the rally, proving effective on the challenging roads in the Gulbene region of Latvia. Local Latvian competitor Sirmacis performed well, earning recognition as the fastest among the home drivers, showcasing the competitive spirit of the national participants.
