Paysandu fans' headquarters attacked in Belém a day before Re-Pa
The headquarters of a fan group for the Paysandu soccer team was attacked in Belém, Brazil, with reports of arson and no injuries reported.
On the morning of Saturday, November 7, the general headquarters of a Paysandu organized fan group was targeted in an attack in the Marco neighborhood of Belém. According to information from the Civil Police, the incident is currently under investigation by the Delegacia de Proteção ao Torcedor e de Grandes Eventos (DPTGE), which specializes in fan-related crimes and major events. Surveillance footage captured the moment when at least six masked men arrived at the location, poured a flammable liquid on the ground, and set it on fire, all within a minute before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries from this incident, indicating that the building was likely unoccupied at the time.
Following the attack, military police units responded to the scene of the incident to gather information and ensure the area’s safety. The Civil Police have confirmed that DPTGE teams were dispatched to the fan group's headquarters to interview witnesses and request forensic analysis to understand the attack's circumstances better. This incident raises concerns about the increasing violence associated with soccer fans in Brazil, where rivalries can sometimes escalate into dangerous confrontations, especially with the Re-Pa match approaching on November 8. Such incidents not only threaten the safety of individuals involved but also cast a shadow over the cultural festivities surrounding sports events.
