Abigail Strate, a ski jumper from Calgary, placed 11th in the women's normal hill competition during the Milan Cortina Olympics. After an initial jump that scored 122.7 points, she was in 12th place, but a second jump scoring 117.7 points allowed her to climb one position for a total of 240.4 points. Norwegian skier Anna Odine Strøm secured the gold with a total score of 267.3, marking a competitive event among international athletes.
Strate is noteworthy for being part of Canada's mixed ski jumping team that won the country's first Olympic medal in the event at the 2022 Beijing Games. However, during these Olympics, Canada is not competing in the mixed team event. Strate's current effort positions her well for her upcoming competition in the women’s large hill event set to debut at this Olympics, where she has shown strong performance this season, winning five out of six World Cup medals in large hill competitions.
Training for the women's large hill event is scheduled to begin on February 12, leading up to the competition on February 15. Strate's previous success in large hill events, including a recent gold medal victory in Germany, adds anticipation for her performance in this upcoming Olympic event, as fans and supporters look forward to her contributions to Canada's ski jumping legacy.
