KuPS Signs Forward from the Swedish Champion Team

KuPS has signed Ugandan forward Calvin Kabuye from Swedish champions Mjällby.

Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS), a Finnish football club, has announced the signing of Ugandan forward Calvin Kabuye from Swedish champions Mjällby. The 22-year-old player had a sparse playing record in the Allsvenskan, featuring in only four matches last season, and spent most of the season on loan at Varbergs BoIS in Sweden's second tier, Superettan. During that time, he managed to score one goal and assist another in 16 appearances, and his signing is seen as a promising addition to KuPS's attacking options.

Kabuye expressed his excitement about the move, stating that he feels a strong connection with KuPS and is eager to contribute to the team's success. He noted that the insight and interest from KuPS made the decision to transfer an easy one for him. With dual citizenship in both Sweden and Uganda, Kabuye is also poised to make a mark internationally, having debuted for the Uganda national team in November 2024. He has previously played in a practice match for Sweden’s under-20 team, highlighting his diverse football background.

This transfer not only underscores KuPS's ambition in the Finnish league but also reflects a growing trend of international scouting and player development in Finnish football. As clubs like KuPS invest in young talent from abroad, they enhance their competitiveness domestically and potentially in international competitions, contributing to the overall growth of football in Finland.
