Young Indigenous Man, 18, Dies After Being Hit by a Car in Community, Northern RR

An 18-year-old Indigenous man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the RR-206 highway in Bonfim, Northern Roraima.

An 18-year-old Indigenous man, who has not been identified, lost his life after being hit by a car on the evening of Friday, the 6th, along the RR-206 highway within the urban perimeter of the Indigenous Community of Alto Arraia in Bonfim, Northern Roraima. The vehicle was driven by a 42-year-old man headed towards Boa Vista. According to the Military Police, the driver remained at the scene of the accident and called for medical assistance for the victim.

A health team from the Moscou Indigenous Community was summoned, and the death of the young man was confirmed by an Indigenous health agent. Following the confirmation of death, teams from the Civil Police of Bonfim, Criminal Forensics, and the Legal Medical Institute (IML) were alerted. The body of the victim was subsequently taken to the IML for further examination, highlighting the procedural steps that follow such tragic incidents.

This incident raises serious concerns regarding road safety, particularly for those living in Indigenous communities.
