Rain causes landslides and blocks the road in Borboleta neighborhood, in Juiz de Fora

Heavy rainfall in Juiz de Fora led to landslides and road closures, particularly on José Lourenço Street, where a fallen tree obstructed traffic.

Between the night of Friday (6th) and the morning of Saturday (7th), Juiz de Fora experienced significant rainfall that resulted in three incidents reported by the Civil Defense. Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries or severe damage, although the weather caused disruptions in various neighborhoods. In Borboleta, José Lourenço Street was partially blocked due to a fallen tree, complicating vehicle passage. Traffic agents were deployed to manage the situation, while the Fire Department was tasked with trimming the tree and clearing the road.

Additionally, landslides were reported in neighborhoods like Nossa Senhora das Graças and Ipiranga, following the heavy rains. The Civil Defense reported significant rainfall measurements, with 32.02 mm recorded in Milho Branco, 31.28 mm in the Industrial District, and 26.16 mm in the Ipiranga neighborhood from midnight to 9 AM. These conditions have led to concerns about further rainfall, as the Inmet issued a warning for rain exceeding 100 mm, suggesting a wet weekend ahead for Juiz de Fora and surrounding areas.

This situation highlights the vulnerabilities of urban infrastructure in areas prone to heavy rainfall, as well as the importance of timely responses from emergency services and city management. Continuous monitoring and community readiness will be crucial as forecasts predict ongoing rain and potential for further incidents in the coming days.
