Large fire in Klaipėda district: repairing machinery burned
A significant fire in Patyrio village destroyed machinery and equipment stored within a metal hangar, prompting extensive firefighting efforts.
On Friday evening after 8 PM, a large fire broke out in a metal hangar in Patyrio village, located in the Klaipėda district of Lithuania. Firefighters arrived on the scene and worked for several hours to extinguish the flames engulfing the structure. The hangar was used for storing and repairing various machinery, including tools for paving and wood cutting. Additionally, the facility housed a boiler room and living quarters built with concrete blocks covering an area of 15x8 meters.
During the fire, a significant amount of equipment was lost, including a truck, a loader, a large excavator, two electric generators, a compressor, and a set of tools. Hazardous materials were also affected; two barrels with a total capacity of 200 liters of hydraulic oil and 50 liters of motor oil were destroyed in the blaze. Fortunately, firefighters managed to save a nearby wooden garage and two Bobcat loaders located within it, as well as three oxygen tanks that were successfully removed from the fire's vicinity. There were no smoke detectors installed in the hangar, which may have delayed the response time.
The incident highlights the importance of proper safety measures in facilities that store machinery and hazardous materials. The loss of significant machinery not only impacts the immediate operations within the hangar but may also lead to broader implications for local businesses relying on this equipment for their work. With no smoke detectors present, local authorities may need to consider stricter regulations to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure similar facilities are adequately equipped to handle emergencies.
