Interview Poll: Strengthening of ND – Pressure from prices, 'brake' on cars, heating, entertainment

A recent poll shows the New Democracy party in Greece gaining support amid rising prices and social pressure, while the opposition parties also see fluctuations in their standings.

The latest poll conducted by Interview for POLITIC indicates that Greece's New Democracy (ND) party has gained a stable lead, recording 28.7% in March, up from 26.4% in February. This increase has widened the gap between ND and its closest rival, the PASOK party, which has also seen a rise to 13.9% from 12%. This shift in voter preference seems to be influenced not just by local issues but also by international complexities, notably the instability stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has led to increased support for the current government. In contrast, PASOK appears to be benefiting from internal party dynamics that are revitalizing its base.

The poll further highlights a fluid political landscape in Greece, with a notable share of undecided voters contributing to the uncertainty. Following ND and PASOK, the Communist Party (KKE) holds the third position with 5.2%, closely trailing the Hellenic Solution party at 5%. The Freedom Course party has slipped to the fifth position with 4%, while the main opposition party SYRIZA registers at 3.6%, indicating its continuing challenges. Other smaller parties, like MERA25 and Voice of Logic, hover just above the 3% mark, indicating a weakening presence for these political entities ahead of upcoming elections.

The polling data signify not only shifts in voter alignments but also underscore the mounting pressures faced by the Greek populace due to rising costs of living, particularly in areas such as vehicle ownership, heating, and leisure activities. As the economic environment continues to evolve, these factors could heavily influence upcoming electoral outcomes and political strategies, prompting parties to recalibrate their messaging and focus accordingly.
