From June, even more residents will receive this benefit: who will be fortunate

Starting from June, a wider circle of residents will be eligible for child benefits, including those without adequate social insurance history.

From this June, Lithuania will expand its child benefit eligibility to include all parents raising children under two years old, even those lacking sufficient social insurance contributions and thus ineligible for the usual parental benefit from the State Social Insurance Fund (Sodra). This move aims to ensure equal social guarantees for young families. Currently, the benefit is available only to single parents, guardians, or adoptive parents who have not accumulated enough social insurance due to their studies or other obligations.

The monthly benefit for eligible families will be set at 444 euros until the child reaches the age of two, which is a significant financial support for parents balancing family responsibilities with education or career development. Jūratė Zailskienė, the Minister of Social Protection and Labor, emphasized that the primary goal of this support is to provide minimum income for young parents while helping them pursue their education or professional qualifications. This initiative is expected to enhance the economic stability of families, potentially encouraging higher birth rates and supporting parents during the early years of child-rearing.

Moreover, this change brings positive news for those planning to return to Lithuania, as the government considers additional social guarantees for them. The eligibility criteria for receiving the benefit include individuals currently studying or those who have a child born in the near future. This development reflects Lithuania's commitment to supporting families and addressing social welfare needs amid changing demographic trends.
