Surprises in the latest poll: residents' favorites for the post of President of Lithuania have been revealed
A recent poll reveals the Lithuanian public's preferences for presidential candidates, with I. Vėgėlė and R. Žemaitaitis leading in support.
The latest poll conducted among Lithuanian residents has revealed their favorites for the upcoming presidential election. Notably, I. Vėgėlė emerged as a frontrunner with 10.4% of respondents in favor, closely followed by R. Žemaitaitis at 9.7%, and I. Šimonytė with 8.7%. This poll highlights a shift in support since the last elections, indicating the intense competition expected in the next race. In the previous presidential elections of 2024, I. Šimonytė garnered a significant 20.05% of the vote, eventually advancing to the second round, while Vėgėlė and Žemaitaitis received 12.35% and 9.21%, respectively.
Additional candidates from the poll include Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys and Seimas Member Saulius Skvernelis, both holding 6.8%, along with Mindaugas Sinkevičius from the Social Democratic Party, who received 6.3%. Other notable figures such as Laurynas Kasčiūnas and Andrius Tapinas received lower percentages of support, indicating a diverse range of candidates vying for the top political position. It is significant to note that the current president, Gitanas Nausėda, was not included in the poll as he is constitutionally barred from running for re-election under specific conditions.
The implications of this polling data are crucial for understanding the political landscape in Lithuania as it indicates voter sentiment ahead of the elections. With many familiar names from the previous elections re-emerging, the results could signal possible shifts in strategies by political parties and the candidates themselves. The competition remains fierce, and as the election date approaches, further polling and campaign developments will play a critical role in shaping the electorate's decision.
