Jeong Cheong-rae: 'I politely request Kim Boo-gyeom to run as the Democratic Party's candidate for Daegu mayor'
Jeong Cheong-rae, the leader of the Democratic Party, has formally requested former Prime Minister Kim Boo-gyeom to run as the party's candidate for mayor of Daegu, emphasizing his leadership skills as crucial for the city's development.
On October 23, Jeong Cheong-rae, the leader of South Korea's Democratic Party, expressed his strong desire for former Prime Minister Kim Boo-gyeom to run as the party's candidate for the Daegu mayoral election, calling him a 'sure winning card' for the development of the underprivileged city. This request was made during a Supreme Council meeting held at the Kang Geum-won Memorial Training Center in Gimhae, Gyeongnam. Jeong highlighted the city’s need for strong leadership, stating that the victory in Gwangju would parallel a potential victory in Daegu, signifying a shift in local politics.
Jeong emphasized that Kim Boo-gyeom, with his extensive experience in government and deep understanding of regional issues, would be the best candidate to lead the development of Daegu. He claimed that the demand for a capable leader who can navigate both central and local political contexts is more urgent than ever, asserting that Kim is unmatched in the region. His endorsement indicates a strategic move for the Democratic Party to strengthen its presence in a traditionally conservative area.
Furthermore, Jeong revealed that the party has repeatedly urged Kim to commit to the role, engaging in profound discussions within the party regarding the necessary procedures. He expressed hope that Kim would quickly make a decision in response to the local residents' urgent wish for substantial leadership to foster regional growth. This statement underscores the Democratic Party's strategy to gain traction in Daegu, which is crucial for their political future and regional influence in South Korea.
