Democratic Party hints at Kim Bo-kyum’s candidacy this week… “We need capable individuals to resolve issues”

The Democratic Party has indicated that former Prime Minister Kim Bo-kyum is expected to decide whether to run for the Daegu mayoral election within the week, seeking strong leadership to address local issues.

On January 22, Jo Seung-rae, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Korea, revealed that former Prime Minister Kim Bo-kyum is likely to announce his decision regarding his candidacy for the Daegu mayoral election within this week. Jo emphasized the necessity of having a competent individual who can effectively communicate with President Lee Jae-myung and the central government to advance development in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang regions. This highlights the party’s strategic approach to ensuring capable leadership for local governance.

Furthermore, Jo noted that although Kim is currently contemplating his candidacy, a definitive announcement is expected soon. He mentioned that this week is crucial for resolving both Kim’s decision and the party’s efforts to tackle local issues such as the relocation of Daegu Airport and the transfer of public institutions. Jo criticized the opposition party, stating that they are stuck in outdated practices and are ill-equipped to craft a better future for Daegu, underscoring the urgency of strong leadership amid political challenges.

The Democratic Party’s upcoming discussions on January 24 and 27 regarding candidacy management for the Daegu mayoral position will further clarify Kim Bo-kyum’s potential involvement. As the party gears up for this local election, the focus remains on finding a leader who can facilitate productive dialogue and address significant local challenges, establishing the tone for future political engagement in the region as the election approaches.
