Rainfall volume has reached more than 80% of the forecast for March in Rio Branco, says Civil Defense
Frequent rain in Rio Branco has already totaled 228.2 mm by March 22, surpassing 80% of the expected monthly total.
As of March 22, Rio Branco has received significant rainfall, accumulating 228.2 mm, which is equivalent to 82.7% of the 276 mm expected for the entire month. The Municipal Civil Defense noted that there was 12 mm of rain recorded in the early hours of this Sunday, but considered it a low volume and reported no incidents involving strong winds or damage in the capital. This contrasts sharply with February’s figures, where only 114.4 mm of rain fell, representing just 38.1% of the monthly expectation of 300.1 mm.
The forecast for the remaining days of March indicates continued rainfall, but these are expected to be lighter and manageable, suggesting that the totals will remain within the monthly average. Despite the relatively lower intensity, the area is currently facing the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon, which tends to decrease rainfall levels in affected regions. This month’s rainfall is crucial for agricultural activities and water supply, as both have been negatively impacted by the recent climatological patterns.
The situation highlights the variability in weather patterns, emphasizing the need for ongoing monitoring and potential adjustments in local agricultural practices. Authorities continue to assess and address any risks posed by weather fluctuations, particularly in light of El Niño's influence, which can have long-lasting effects on local climate and agricultural outputs.
