Attention, songs, conversations, and improvisation: clown doctors now also bring joy to seniors
Clown doctors are now visiting senior care centers, bringing joy and entertainment through songs, exercises, and conversations with elderly residents.
Clown doctors have expanded their outreach beyond children to bring joy to seniors at care centers, starting their visits with exercise sessions designed to engage the elderly. This initiative began several years ago and is rooted in the belief that clowns can elicit happiness in people of all ages, reflecting the notion that everyone carries a childlike spirit within them, as acknowledged by the management of the social care center.
Ilze Ragozina, the director of the "Pārdaugava" social care center, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, noting that each visitor contributes positively to the emotional well-being of the clients. The clown doctors not only lead exercise sessions but also visit residents in their rooms, creating an interactive and engaging atmosphere that fosters genuine joy through songs, conversations, and improvisation. This form of entertainment helps to brighten the everyday lives of senior residents.
Residents like Rita, who was born in 1934, shared their appreciation for the clown doctors, highlighting the fun and enjoyable experiences provided during their visits. Despite her vocal challenges, Rita expressed her excitement for future visits, showing that these clown doctors have become a beloved addition to the community's activities, eagerly anticipated for holidays and celebrations ahead. This program illustrates the importance of maintaining joy and laughter in the lives of the elderly, enhancing their quality of life significantly.
