Biathlon: Second Place in Mass Start

German biathletes ended the World Cup season without a win, with Philipp Nawrath finishing second in the final race at Holmenkollen.

The German biathlon team has achieved a historic milestone, concluding the World Cup season without securing a single victory. In the final race held at Holmenkollen, which was the 58th race of the season, the men came very close to breaking this streak. Philipp Nawrath, competing in the 15 km mass start, put on an impressive performance, finishing just 3.7 seconds behind the winner after a perfect shooting record. This marked Nawrath's second second-place finish of the season, reflecting his consistent performance despite the team's overall lack of wins.

During the race, Nawrath battled alongside Norway's Johan-Olav Botn in the final lap, indicating a fierce competition toward the end. Although Nawrath was on the verge of achieving his second career victory, he ultimately fell short in the sprint for the finish line. This second-place finish in Holmenkollen added to his earlier success in Oberhof, where he also claimed second, highlighting a year of near misses for him and the German Ski Association, which celebrated its eighth podium placement despite not winning.

Eric Perrot of France secured the third position in this race and was already confirmed as the overall World Cup champion. He solidified his excellent season by winning the mass start discipline after previously achieving top results in both the pursuit and individual races. Nawrath's performance, while commendable, underscores the challenges faced by the German team as they look to overcome this winless season in the future.
