Minister: An audit will be conducted to assess whether e-health can operate independently
Lithuania's health minister announced an upcoming audit to evaluate the independence of the e-health system and possibly transition its management from the Ministry of Economy and Innovation to the Ministry of Health.
In a recent statement, Lithuania's Minister of Health discussed plans to conduct an audit to assess the operational efficiency and independence of the e-health system. The Minister indicated that the Government has agreed to this audit, which aims to explore the potential benefits and risks of relocating the management of e-health from the Ministry of Economy and Innovation's subordinate Registry Centre directly under the Health Ministry. The estimated cost of this transition is projected to be around €15 million.
The audit is expected to provide insights into the necessary adjustments needed for both the data systems and the hardware requirements essential for transferring control to the Health Ministry. The Health Minister emphasized that this assessment will cover various aspects, including financial considerations and human capital necessary to ensure that the e-health system thrives under new management. The intention behind this move is to enhance the efficiency of e-health management and improve service delivery to the public.
This audit reflects a significant shift in the handling of Lithuania's health technology initiatives, aiming to ensure that the e-health system operates optimally and is aligned with the needs of the health sector. If the evaluation demonstrates the feasibility of this transition, it could lead to improved healthcare outcomes in the country.
