Salmonella-causing bacteria found in Polish origin turkey fillet by PVD
The Veterinary and Food Inspection Department (PVD) in Latvia has identified salmonella-causing bacteria in fresh, chilled turkey fillet imported from Poland.
The Veterinary and Food Inspection Department (PVD) of Latvia has found salmonella-causing bacteria, specifically 'Salmonella Enteritidis', in a 200-gram skinless fresh turkey fillet imported from Poland, according to the department's announcement. This product had a batch number of '260216132100' and has already passed its expiration date, making it no longer available for sale.
The PVD conducted laboratory testing which revealed the presence of harmful bacteria, prompting them to inform the public through the European Union's Rapid Alert System. This notification highlights the PVD's commitment to food safety and public health, as they take actions to prevent contaminated food from reaching consumers.
As a state authority under the Ministry of Agriculture, the PVD is responsible for monitoring food cycles and veterinary medicine in Latvia, ensuring the safety and well-being of the food supply. This incident raises significant concerns regarding food safety standards in imported products and necessitates continued vigilance in monitoring food imports for potential health risks to consumers.
