Lithuanian food safety agency VMVT has launched an investigation into salmonella contamination found in chicken thigh meat from a Klaipeda hospital kitchen.
On February 5, during a routine food safety inspection, the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) collected a chicken thigh meat sample from the food preparation department of Klaipeda Republican Hospital. Laboratory tests revealed the presence of Salmonella spp. in one of the samples. Following the inspection, no product remnants were found in the hospital, but VMVT mandated the withdrawal of all 16 kg of the contaminated product from circulation, as a precautionary measure to protect consumer health.
