Zelensky: With the weakening of sanctions, Russia receives additional resources for war
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that recent weakening of sanctions allows Russia to obtain additional resources for its military operations against Ukraine.
During a recent address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted that Russia has intensified its military offensive, launching approximately 1,550 strikes with drones and over 1,260 guided bombs against Ukraine. This increase in aggression is reportedly supported by enhanced financial resources resulting from Russia's oil sales. Zelensky expressed concern that the profits from these sales contribute to a sense of impunity for Russia, enabling it to sustain its war efforts against Ukraine.
Zelensky called for an increase in international pressure on Russia and emphasized the necessity for sanctions to be effective, particularly concerning what he referred to as the 'shadow fleet' of tankers used to circumvent restrictions. He urged international partners to take decisive action to block such vessels from operating freely in European and other waters. Zelensky argued that a resolute response from allies could bring Ukraine closer to achieving a just and sustainable peace.
The commentary also reflects broader concerns regarding the global oil market, which has been destabilized due to conflicts, including the ongoing situation in Iran. The United States has attempted to mitigate rising oil prices by lessening Russia's oil revenue, signifying the complex interplay between international geopolitics and local conflicts while underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression.
