Pogacar showed power at the famous classic, Mihkels did not make it to the top

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar won the 298 km race from Milan to San Remo, continuing his dominance in cycling, while Madis Mihkels finished in 83rd place.

In a remarkable performance, Tadej Pogacar, the reigning Tour de France champion and world champion in road cycling, claimed victory in the prestigious race from Milan to San Remo, known for its challenging routes. Pogacar's win came on his sixth attempt at this event, showcasing not only his skill but his determination, especially after a significant crash with 32 kilometers remaining in the race, which he managed to recover from quickly to return to the main group. Alongside him in the final stretch were Thomas Pidcock and Wout van Aert, with Pogacar narrowly defeating Pidcock in the sprint finish.

Despite Pogacar's triumph, fellow Estonian cyclist Madis Mihkels struggled during the race, finishing in 83rd place, 3 minutes and 45 seconds behind the winner. Mihkels reflected on the day, expressing that while the team's strategy initially unfolded as planned, with hopes pinned on teammate Michael Valgren to position well for the Cipressa climb, the outcome did not materialize as intended, resulting in Valgren finishing in 30th place. This race highlights not only Pogacar’s exceptional abilities but also the competitive nature of cycling events like Milan-San Remo, which serve as significant platforms for both established and emerging cyclists.

Overall, the Milan-San Remo classic remains one of the most anticipated events in the cycling calendar, and Pogacar's victory reinforces his status as a leading talent in the sport. With such performances, he continues to inspire both fans and fellow competitors, while Mihkels is left with valuable experience and the motivation to improve in future races.
