Pogacar gets his first win in the Milano-Sanremo race, Mihkels 83rd

Tadej Pogacar secured his first victory in the prestigious Milano-Sanremo cycling race with a time of 6:34.49 after six attempts.

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, riding for UAE Team Emirates - XRG, has achieved his first victory in the renowned one-day cycling event Milano-Sanremo, finishing the 298 km race in 6:34.49. This victory comes after five previous attempts, marking a significant achievement in his cycling career. Notable competitors included Mathieu van der Poel and Thomas Pidcock, who initially posed a challenge on the penultimate climb but ultimately could not keep pace with Pogacar as he sprinted to the finish.

In the final moments of the race, Pogacar and Pidcock were neck and neck, demonstrating their endurance and strategy. However, it was Pogacar's quickness in the final hour of the race that gave him the edge and secured him the win. This victory enhances Pogacar's profile in professional cycling, as he continues to compete for titles in the sport, having already won four of the five Monuments available, with only the Paris-Roubaix left to conquer. Last year, he faced tough competition from van der Poel in that race and finished outside the podium.

Pogacar's win at Milano-Sanremo not only showcases his prowess as a cyclist but also positions him favorably for upcoming races. The third place was claimed by Belgian cyclist Wout van Aert, indicating a competitive field at this year’s event. Such victories are crucial for Pogacar as he aims to solidify his status in the cycling world, and with each success, he builds on his legacy as one of the leading cyclists of his generation.
