The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is introducing an AI dashcam system across its extensive network of national highways, encompassing about 40,000 kilometers. This initiative aims to address common concerns faced by drivers, such as unexpected potholes, damaged roads, and encroachments that pose safety risks. With the implementation of this system, real-time monitoring will enhance the effectiveness of road maintenance and improve overall safety for motorists.

The new system, referred to as Dashcam Analytics Services (DAS), will utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to constantly oversee road conditions. High-resolution dashcams will be installed in Route Patrol Vehicles (RPVs), capturing continuous images and videos of the highways. This data will be analyzed using AI models that can autonomously identify over 30 types of road defects, streamlining the process of reporting and addressing road conditions efficiently.
