Hiking in Latgale invites to explore lakes and aquatic biotopes

In celebration of World Water Day, Latvia's Nature Conservation Agency is organizing a hike in Rāzna National Park to highlight the importance of water ecosystems.

To commemorate World Water Day, the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP) is hosting a hike at Rāzna National Park, themed "Clean Water for Nature and Humans." Scheduled to begin at 10 AM, the hike covers a 10-kilometer route along the shores of Lake Ežezers and Lake Udrija in the Andzeļu parish. Participants will meet at the parking lot near the Piloru oak grove, where the importance of clean water will be emphasized.

Regīna Indriķe, the senior nature education specialist at the DAP's Rāzna National Park nature center, underscored that water is one of the most critical natural resources necessary for life on Earth. It's essential not only for humans but for entire ecosystems. Lakes, rivers, and marshes provide habitats for countless plant and animal species, forming the basis for their survival due to the necessity of clean water.

Throughout the hike, participants will have the opportunity not only to enjoy the scenic hills and lakes of Latgale but also to expand their knowledge about the importance of freshwater biotopes in conserving biodiversity. Attendees will explore the role of water ecosystems in providing essential services to humanity, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the necessity to protect these vital natural resources.
