Kerala: BJP leader Chandrashekhar declared assets worth ₹93 crore, has debt of ₹107 crore
BJP leader Rajeev Chandrashekhar declared assets of over ₹93 crore along with debts totaling ₹107 crore as part of his election nomination in Kerala.
Rajeev Chandrashekhar, a prominent BJP candidate, submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming Kerala assembly elections from the Nemom constituency. During the submission, which took place in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, he revealed an electoral affidavit stating that he possesses assets exceeding ₹93 crore. Notably, his wealth includes both movable and immovable properties, alongside a unique item—a 1942 model Red Indian Scout motorcycle purchased in 1994 for ₹10,000. Additionally, his declaration lists over ₹3.58 crore worth of jewelry, bullion, and other valuables.
However, the financial picture is complicated by an alarming amount of liabilities. According to the affidavit, Chandrashekhar has over ₹107 crore in debts, a figure that highlights the potential risks and challenges he might face while contesting the elections. His wife's financial involvements also contribute to this picture, with reported debts of ₹1.62 crore, primarily consisting of loans from banks and financial institutions.
The revelation of such significant debts alongside substantial assets raises questions about financial management within political spheres in India. As the elections draw closer, these figures may become a focal point for opponents and may influence the voters’ perceptions regarding accountability and trustworthiness of the candidates, particularly in a politically vibrant state like Kerala where the competition is fierce between major parties.
