Elumelu Foundation disburses $100m to African entrepreneurs
The Tony Elumelu Foundation has provided $100 million in support of 24,000 young entrepreneurs across Africa since 2015, addressing the regionβs unemployment challenges.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation recently announced that it has disbursed a significant $100 million to support approximately 24,000 young entrepreneurs across 54 African countries since the inception of its flagship programme in 2015. Somachi Chris-Asoluka, the CEO of the foundation, made this announcement during a virtual press conference aimed at revealing the 2026 cohort of beneficiaries, which includes 3,200 entrepreneurs selected from across the continent. This initiative has emphasized its inclusive reach, noting that entrepreneurs from every African nation are represented.
In her remarks, Chris-Asoluka highlighted the program's extensive impact, stating that beneficiaries have collectively generated around $4.2 billion in revenue and have created more than 1.5 million direct and indirect jobs. This achievement illustrates the initiative's commitment to combating Africa's persistent unemployment issues by fostering the growth of small and medium-scale enterprises throughout the continent.
