Yenagoa to host rescheduled 2025 National Wrestling Classics
Yenagoa will host the rescheduled 2025 National Wrestling Classics from March 25 to April 1 following a delay due to the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
The city of Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, is set to host the 2025 Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics after the event was postponed from December 2025 due to the unfortunate passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. The Bayelsa State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation led by Dr Bashir Adeniyi, has completed all arrangements for this anticipated event. They are committed to ensuring that this edition of the championship stands out as the best in its history, with significant backing from sponsors and various partners.
Organisers have high expectations for participation, with around 30 states and 10 clubs expected to compete. The event not only aims to showcase wrestling at its finest but also to foster camaraderie among different state representations, including those from military and paramilitary institutions. Each state and club is being encouraged to submit their teams promptly to facilitate seamless logistics and preparations ahead of the championship.
In terms of logistics, the plans include a fully equipped Games Village designed to house all participating teams, ensuring they have adequate accommodation and feeding arrangements. This strategic approach indicates the government's commitment to supporting athletes and enhancing the overall experience of competitors and attendees, promising an exciting week of wrestling competitions that will highlight the athletic talents from across Nigeria.
