Host Edo dethrones Bayelsa to win Niger Delta Games
Edo State won the second edition of the Niger Delta Games, securing first place with a total of 52 gold medals and dethroning the defending champions Bayelsa.
Team Edo claimed victory in the second edition of the Niger Delta Games, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State. They finished with an impressive tally of 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze medals, ensuring their first-place finish before the final relay races took place. Delta State followed with 39 gold medals, while the previous champions, Bayelsa, dropped to third place with only 25 golds, marking a significant upset in the competition. In addition to the sports outcomes, the Games included a Cultural Expo Night, showcasing the vibrant traditions of the Niger Delta. The dancing competition saw Ondo State emerging victorious, which added an enjoyable cultural aspect to the competitive atmosphere of the events. The support from the Niger Delta Development Commission and the organization by Dunamis Icon Limited further highlighted the importance of community and cultural heritage in the context of sporting events. The performances were marked by Delta State's dominance in the relay events, where they won three of the four races.
