Cypress Hill, poorly scheduled, puts on a cannabis show for few at Lollapalooza

Cypress Hill performed at Lollapalooza to a surprisingly small crowd, overshadowed by more popular acts in the festival's lineup.

Cypress Hill took the stage at Lollapalooza on Saturday afternoon, but despite the prime time slot on the Samsung stage, the audience was disappointingly sparse. In comparison, the Interpol show scheduled at the same time the previous day attracted a much larger crowd. Additionally, local band Foto em Grupo, which played just over two hours earlier under the blazing sun, also drew a larger audience than Cypress Hill, highlighting the lack of appeal for the group's performance this time around.

The diminished turnout for Cypress Hill can be attributed largely to the festival's lineup, which featured pop acts such as Chapell Roan, whose fans were easily recognizable in bright pink hats and makeup, along with other popular names like Marina and Lewis Capaldi, as well as electronic music icon Skrillex. As a result, the presence of rap music in the festival was overshadowed, relegated to less prominent national acts on a smaller electronic stage, which likely affected Cypress Hill's visibility and draw.

Despite the low attendance, it's important to note that Cypress Hill possesses a significant history and legacy, having been formed in the late 1980s in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles. Their rich musical heritage warrants their place at Lollapalooza, yet the competition from more contemporary pop and electronic acts appears to have diminished their expected audience engagement at this year's event.
