VIDEO: Avenues flood during heavy rain in Uberlândia; family abandons car
Heavy rainfall in Uberlândia caused significant flooding, stranding motorists and necessitating the abandonment of vehicles.
Intense rainfall hit the city of Uberlândia on the evening of Saturday, the 21st, leading to severe disruptions for drivers. The most significant rainfall was recorded in neighborhoods such as Santa Mônica, Segismundo Pereira, and Santa Luzia, where numerous flooding incidents occurred. Streets were particularly affected, with major flooding reported on Anselmo Alves dos Santos and João Naves de Ávila avenues.
Videos circulating on social media depict a family forced to evacuate their vehicle as water began to flood inside on Anselmo Alves dos Santos avenue. The situation worsened near the railway underpass, where a landslide blocked traffic in the direction of the Grand Ville neighborhood, fully restricting access on that road. Additionally, the Civil Defense reported an incident on Mato Grosso avenue in the Brasil neighborhood, where a roadway collapse trapped a car, with the left front tire falling into the gap.
Emergency services, including a team from the Municipal Secretary, were dispatched to address the flooding and assist affected citizens. The adverse weather conditions highlight the need for improved urban infrastructure to handle such extreme weather events, as well as the importance of public readiness during heavy rains to prevent accidents and damage to property in the region.
