On March 21, a kidnapping attempt occurred in northern Quito, Ecuador, targeting a man who had just left a restaurant. While walking on the streets of Eloy Alfaro and Suiza, he was forcibly taken by several individuals who tried to put him into a gray Chevrolet Sail. The victim's resistance—screaming and fighting back—attracted the attention of nearby citizens who alerted the police for assistance.
Witnesses reported that the situation escalated when the driver of a 4x4 vehicle intervened, blocking the escape route of the kidnappers. One of the assailants exited the car to confront the 4x4 driver, allowing the victim the opportunity to flee. As a result of the alerts and intervention, police quickly arrived at the scene, managing to apprehend three individuals involved in the attempted kidnapping.
Patricio Almendáriz, the commander of the Zone 9 of the Metropolitan District of Quito, provided updates on the incident, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in thwarting criminal activities. He noted that the swift response from the public and the police prevented a violent crime, pointing towards a growing concern over safety and security in urban areas of Quito.
