The city council of Oriximiná awarded Bishop Dom Bernardo Johannes the title of Honorary Citizen for his significant contributions to the local community.
During a solemn session held on Friday night, the Municipal Chamber of Oriximiná in western Pará granted the honorary title of Citizen Oriximinaense to Bishop Dom Bernardo Johannes. This honor recognizes his valuable services to the local population, particularly in pastoral and social areas. The title is a result of Legislative Decree No. 005/25, co-authored by councilors Miguel Canto, Renan Guimarães, Ludugero Junior, and Rosivaldo Costa.
According to the decree, the title acknowledges Bishop Bernardo's contributions to strengthening the Catholic faith, expanding pastoral activities, and caring for families in the Amazon region. His efforts are also noted in fostering social projects aimed at the human development of local communities. As a missionary Franciscan bishop originally from Germany, Dom Bernardo has committed himself to the Amazon and its people.
This recognition highlights the impact of religious leaders on local communities, especially in areas where social support is crucial. It reflects the collaboration between spiritual and civic authorities in addressing the needs of the population and reinforces the role of the church in social development initiatives.
