Two dead in avalanche in Italy

An avalanche in Val Ridanna, South Tyrol, Italy, has resulted in two fatalities and several injuries, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.

In a tragic incident in Val Ridanna, located in South Tyrol, Italy, ten individuals were caught in an avalanche, leading to the deaths of two people and serious injuries to three others, as reported by La Repubblica. The avalanche occurred at an altitude of 2,300 meters, and the rescue operation was extensive, involving the deployment of five helicopters. Fortunately, all those buried in the avalanche were equipped with avalanche beacons, which can help locate individuals trapped beneath the snow.

As the situation develops, it's noted that seven individuals were completely buried under the snow, with two suffering minor injuries. This winter has seen a distressing number of avalanche-related incidents across Italy. Earlier in February, a grim record was set when ten people died in avalanches throughout the country. Altogether, thirteen individuals lost their lives in various accident scenarios in the Italian Alps this season, underscoring the dangerous conditions present in the region.

On February 14th, another avalanche claimed the lives of two men in Northwest Italy's Aosta Valley, as reported by the Italian state broadcaster Rai and the news agency Ansa. The repeated occurrences of these deadly avalanches highlight the increasing risks faced by winter sports enthusiasts and the urgent need for awareness and safety measures in avalanche-prone areas.
