The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested 87 individuals in a police operation targeting repeat offenders in Barcelona and surrounding areas.
In a significant police operation, the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested 87 people in Barcelona and nearby cities as part of their strategy against repeat offenders known as the Kanpai plan. This operation aimed to tackle a growing concern over multirecidivism in the region and involved collaborations with officers from other police departments. During this operation, 29 additional individuals were criminally charged and 232 administrative complaints were processed.
Out of the arrested individuals, 42 were captured in Barcelona alone, accumulating a total of 181 prior criminal records. The arrests included cases related to foreign law violations, domestic violence issues under the viogen/vido program, and individuals who were already on the run from law enforcement. The operation also facilitated the identification of over 1,000 individuals in Barcelona, revealing a staggering total of 2,330 prior offenses linked to them, highlighting the scope of repeat criminal behavior.
This operation not only addresses the immediate issues regarding crime in these localities but also emphasizes the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing repeat offenders who pose a persistent threat to public safety. The proactive engagement of the Mossos and other police bodies signals a broader commitment to public safety and crime prevention in Catalonia as they strive to reduce criminal activities linked to habitual offenders.
