A police operation called 'plan Kanpai' aimed at addressing multirecidivism in Tarragona, Spain, led to significant law enforcement action on Friday. Over 320 officers, including members from Mossos d’Esquadra, local police, and Policía Nacional, were deployed across four cities—Tarragona, Reus, Valls, and El Vendrell. This extensive operation resulted in 33 arrests and the identification of 1,138 individuals who were known to have accumulated a staggering total of 3,382 police records.
The primary goal of the operation was to disrupt the criminal mobility of repeat offenders and enhance public perception of safety in high-traffic areas. Among the 33 individuals arrested, 26 were apprehended by the Mossos d’Esquadra while 7 were detained by the Policía Nacional. The enforcement effort also included ticketing, with police issuing 80 citations for drug possession and 20 for possession of knives, highlighting a comprehensive approach to crime management in the region.
This operation underscores a proactive initiative by the authorities to tackle the issue of recidivism, aiming to project a stronger police presence and deter criminal activities. The strategy not only sought to remove offenders from the streets but also to reassure the local community regarding their safety. Such operations may become a regular feature in law enforcement’s effort to curb crime rates and address public concerns about safety in urban centers.
