A truck overturns on a highway in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, after being hit by a car, leading to several deaths among transported calves.
A serious accident occurred on Saturday morning involving a truck and a car on the BR-153 road in São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo. The truck was transporting 120 calves when it was struck by a passenger vehicle that veered into its lane, causing the truck to tumble down a roadside embankment. Tragically, several of the calves were reported dead as a result of the accident.
Emergency response teams were deployed to the scene, including three tow trucks to assist in removing the overturned vehicle. The truck originated from the state of Bahia and was en route to Paraná at the time of the accident. Traffic on the southbound lane of the highway remained blocked as authorities worked to clear the debris and manage the aftermath of the crash, which occurred at kilometer 60 of the BR-153.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision, including why the passenger vehicle crossed into the truck's lane. This accident highlights ongoing safety concerns on Brazilian highways, especially involving transport vehicles on busy routes, and raises questions about animal safety during transportation in such incidents.
