Two people were killed in a severe accident on BR-101 in Linhares, Espírito Santo, when a motorcycle collided head-on with a truck during an overtaking maneuver.
On the evening of Friday (20), a tragic accident occurred on the BR-101 highway in Linhares, northern Espírito Santo, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, the rider and passenger of a motorcycle. The fatal incident happened around 10 p.m. when the motorcycle attempted to overtake a bus but collided head-on with an oncoming truck. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed yet, and investigations are ongoing to understand the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident occurred at kilometer 161, where the Honda NXR150 Bros motorcycle moved out from behind the bus and struck the truck, which was traveling in the opposite direction. Preliminary reports indicate that the truck driver tried to prevent the collision, leaving skid marks on the road that suggest he veered into part of the opposite lane, nearly hitting the bus before the motorcycle collided with him. The swift actions of the truck driver highlight the dangerous conditions that can arise on busy highways.
This incident raises broader concerns about road safety, particularly regarding the dangers of overtaking on highways. As investigations continue, local authorities may need to assess traffic regulations and safety measures on the BR-101 to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
